Details
Australian companies may apply to ASIC to change their company name. This application is made on the Notification of Resolution Form 205.
It is possible to change the name of a registered company. However, the new name must be available. This means that:
- the name is not identical or nearly identical to a name which is already registered, and
- the name is not unacceptable for registration.
Once a name is chosen, the company must pass a special resolution and lodge a Form 205 to ASIC, giving details of the company’s special resolution to change the company name.

Lodging the Company Name Change - Form 205
Agents have the ability to set up a direct debit account with ASIC. The direct debit account is used for payments for lodging certain forms with ASIC including the Company Name Change - Form 205.
If you have set up a direct debit account, ensure that the ASIC Direct Debit option is flagged in the settings screen before form 205 is lodged.
See Edge/ECR Direct Debit Account for more information.
The Lodgement invoice will be received into CAS 360's Document screen. See ASIC Invoices
If you have not set up a Direct Debit Account, users can still pay the ASIC Invoice in the usual payment methods available (BPAY and PostPay).
