Request - I wish clicking View marked a Notification as read or at the very least didn't close the notifications bell window

You click the notifications bell window

You click View on an unread notification...

You are taken to view the notification and the notifications bell window is closed... with the notification still unread.

You have to click the notification bell again, hover on the message (because it doesn't even show the mark as read option until you do), then click the mail icon (which is the wrong way around also).

It's 2-3 steps more than it should be.

I've viewed it, it should be marked as read.. or at least leave the window open so I can mark it as read without the other 2 steps again.

When it is unread, the mail icon is (an) open (envelope).. in any other program, this would represent that the status of the message is currently read. If the icon was a closed envelope, it would represent a message in an unread status, and I would click it (changing it to an open envelope) to mark it as read.
